About me

I am a passionate, self-taught photographer from Düsseldorf, Germany with a keen interest in mountaineering as well as landscape and nature photography. My photographic journey started when I bought my first own digital camera to capture my vacation trips in Europe - a Praktica DPix 540Z compact camera with 5 mega pixels. After shooting some years in a point & shoot manner I bought my first DSRL - a Canon 1000D - to capture my life and trips during my studies abroad in Karlstad, Sweden. During that time I was able to borrow some equipment from a professional nature photographer and learned some basics. Since then my photography grew slowly over time on many of my outdoor vacations where I brought my camera gear on hiking and mountaineering trips in the Alps as well as other mountainous parts of Europe.

Editing images

For my editing of images I rely mostly on open-source photography software such as darktable and Exiv2. On some occasions I will use commercial software, however, in most cases open-source software is as good as commercial products. In my workflow of editing images I primarily rely on single RAW files which I process based on my memories from that particular moment. There are some exceptions where I need to deviate from my typical workflow, e.g. focus stacking and panoramas. In these cases I tend to create tiff files in darktable, do stitching in other software products and finish the image again in darktable. After a review period some of my images are being published on various social networks, however, many of my edited images will never be released to the broader public.
